The New York Funk Exchange is a 9 piece original funk/soul band hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Since its inception in 2007, the NYFE has played more than 200 electrifying live shows all over the United States, sharing the stage with artists like Fred Wesley & the New JBs, Galactic, Topaz, Melvin Seals, Martha and the Vandellas, Eddie Money, Damian Marley, Nas and many others.
The bands sound, a body shaking mix of old school funk, jazz, soul and R&B is clearly heard throughout their 2009 debut album, The Funkonomic Stimulus Plan, which features legendary bassist Christian McBride. The record received rave reviews online and in magazines such as Good Times, Relix and Upstate Live. After two years on the road promoting the Stimulus Plan, the NYFE is now preparing for the much anticipated release of its sophomore album, expected to launch in fall 2012.
Besides headlining festivals throughout the Northeast, The New York Funk Exchange is currently touring the United States playing to packed houses hundreds of miles outside of their hometown of Brooklyn and performing live on radio shows like SIRIUSXMs Ron and Fez Show. They also maintain a residency at Club Groove NYC in the West Village of Manhattan. With Serenas strong, soulful vocals and the four piece Wall Street Horns section, the power and energy that the New York Funk Exchange puts forth during each live performance leaves audiences begging for more.
